Simply the best August 19, 2009 W. Young (Newville PA) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
This is the best thing in the kitchen for home processing of fruits and vegetables. Bought it for tomatoes to make sauce and juice, but after reading booklet found out other uses such as raspberry juice (we use for homemade ice cream) I used to strain the berries through cheese cloth and clean pantyhose to get out seeds, but with this not only do i get clean juice but more of it as you can reprocess the "waste" several times. I would highly recommend this item. Save yourself the trouble and just buy the extra screens when you purchase the base kit.
Stupendous!!! October 9, 2009 C. Hellewell (UT USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My Grandma, Aunts, and Mother have all used Victorio Strainers for decades and the advice I got was, "buy a Victorio". (Not sure if any of them ever owned anything different.) Some have different versions, but they all love them and faithfully use them every year!!! My Aunt and Mother have never had theirs break, and they have put a lot of 'miles' on their machines. It sure makes canning easier, because you don't have to core or peel the apples. (not sure if fruit with big pits like Prunes and Peaches need to be pitted.) Apples need to be cut in half or in quarters, but these machines sure make the process a whole lot easier!!! I've looked at other machines that do a similar process, but most are similar in cost and you still have to do more work. My sister bought one a year or so ago and loves hers! I'm dreaming of the applesauce I'm going to make, cause I'm buying one today!!!
Hard to find, but worth it April 19, 2010 G. Parson (Utah) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My wife has used one of these for many years for all kinds of food preparation. Key examples include canning, jams, sauces, and juices. It's a crucial component in the process and a tremendous time-saver. For several years they were very hard to find. This year we were thrilled to be able to purchase one through Amazon for a good friend who loves to "put food by". She's now another believer. If you're serious about food preservation, you need one. Its very durable as well.
One warning though: Be prepared for juice and pulp to coat a wide area of your kitchen when you use it. It's not a design flaw, its just the nature of the process. So, if you're afraid of sticky messes, don't even think about it. However, if you're willing to do a little clean up, the quality of the food you feed your family will be drammatically improved.
Indispensable kitchen tool September 26, 2009 Granny Gardener (Battle Mountain, NV United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought an original Victorio strainer 40 years ago when I started seriously gardening. Later I bought the pumpkin screen with the one-piece plastic spatter screen, a great improvement over the old aluminum trough. The Victorio is indispensable for anyone making applesauce, processing pumpkin and tomatoes, and making berry jam. My d-i-l has started gardening, so I'm going to give a new model to her. She will love me forever.
Best Machine in the World! January 29, 2010 K. Boss 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love my Victorio strainer. I use it for so many different things because it is so versatile. I use it the most to strain my tomatoes for things like pasta sauce and tomato soup. However, I have also used it to make mashed potatoes, peach jam and apple sauce. A tip that I found to be useful when straining fresh fruits and vegetables is to make sure that they are totally ripe because that makes straining very easy. Through trial and error I found that when my tomatoes are green they still go through the machine, but not nearly as easily as when they are nice and ripe. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my strainer and it was definitely money well spent.
