Product Description
5qt Round Crock Pot White

Amazon.com Review
The original slow cooker, the Crock-Pot was first introduced by Rival in the 1970s and has proved to be much more than a fad. This convenient appliance helps you prepare delicious family-style meals while you're working, running errands, hiking, or just relaxing around the house.

The 5-quart, round Crock-Pot is large enough to cook four to six chicken breasts with vegetables or enough chili or soup for four to five people. The easy-to-use programmable timer turns on and off with the push of a button and lets you choose among time settings of 4, 6, 8, and 10 hours. When cooking time is complete, the Crock-Pot automatically shifts into warming mode, which keeps food at the right eating temperature but doesn't overcook it.

The exterior of this Crock-Pot is white plastic that wipes down easily and matches the décor of most kitchens. Plastic handles provide a secure and comfortable grip for transporting the cooker. The Crock-Pot's internal liner is made of durable stoneware that is attractive enough to go from cooker to tabletop to serve your meal. The liner also has a stick-resistant coating and is dishwasher-safe to make clean-up easy. The glass lid lets you peek at your food while it cooks and is also dishwasher safe. Rival offers a limited 1-year warranty on this stoneware slow cooker. --Cristina Vaamonde

5 out of 5 stars ROUND IS BETTER THAN OVAL   February 21, 2003

Most crockpots I have looked at felt cheap. This one is feels solid. I think the round lid design is the only way to go because it just fits the pot better. This lid is all glass with no metal parts to trap dirt of bacteria. Because of the inherent imperfection when the stonewares and the heavy glass lids were made, the oval pots and lids almost never fit together well enough to form a seal. A poorly fitted lid can allow an unpredictable amount of moisture and heat to escape, which can make your cooking inconsistent. The round lid on this model allows me to rotate it on the stoneware to find an excellent fit. The same cannot be done with an oval pot. The solid color of this unit makes it somewhat immune to going out of fashion in terms of appearance. The timer with its "keep warm" feature allows me to have peace of mind when I have to stay late at work. Dinner will not be overcooked when I get home. Take it SLOW and happy COOKING!

5 out of 5 stars Best Crock Pot I've Ever Used   September 17, 2005

I bought mine a few years ago just after I'd moved but not located my other crock pot in the moving boxes. The major reason I bought it was because of the self-timing feature. Somehow, attaching a timer to use the original type of crock pot seemed ... a bit unreliable.

This pot is big enough for what I use it for, cleans easily and looks beautiful.

I like to put it on when I leave for work in the morning, or will set it up for overnight cooking. I've never had any issue with either method, however, I do use the grounded electrical outlet in my kitchen.

Yes, it does seem a bit warmer than my old machine. For that reason, I make sure there is nothing nearby that could be damaged by any radiant heat, but I do the same for the toaster on my counter.

The removable crock is a godsend for cleaning. My first Crock Pot had a non-removable crock and was a major pain at clean up. This one is a breeze -- I've been known to leave the crock soak in the sink overnight. I'm not an enthusiastic dishwasher. :)

The crock is also usable in the oven if you need it. Big enough for an average household and yet small enough for 1 or 2 people, this is worth the investment.

5 out of 5 stars Works fine if you cook time/food size appropriate   May 30, 2005

Ok, I have not tried to cook with it overnight and I usually put it on the 6-8 hour setting anyway. I really have enjoyed it. I saw that other folks tend to think it can cook too fast/hot but it has always cooked my foods perfectly when I use the size of food specificed in the manual set on the appropriate time. The lid sits on top and will lift up to let out steam, just as any pot will do when the contents are hot and expanding within, but the sound is minimal and I really dont see how the other reviewer could hear this all the way in their bedroom from the kitchen. I LOVE my slow-cooker and highly recommend it. It has a great little dip warmer addition that keeps hot dips perfectly warm like spinach-alvocado dip. Yum!

5 out of 5 stars I think this is a great crock-pot   November 20, 2006

I don't agree at all with the unsatisfied reviewers. I have had this for several months now and used countless times. I can put it directly to the warm only mode contrary to what the earlier person said. I also like that if I set something to be on high or low for the specified hours that when that time is complete the unit automatically switches to warm. I cannot speak to the durability issue as I am careful with everthing I have. No, it is not made of castiron so common sense would tell you to not treat it as such. I would recommend this to all of my friends and am ordering one now for my mom. Mine also came with a smaller dip crock which I haven't used yet. I paid $49 months ago at Kohl's. Good Luck!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Crockpot   April 17, 2009

I am quite mystified at the terrible reviews this crock pot has recieved. I bought the larger Crockpot SCVP609-KLS Smart-Pot 6-Quart Oval-Shaped Slow Cooker with Little Dipper, White for my mom about two years ago and we have used it numerous times to cook many things and have never once had any issues with it. I bought this smaller round one at a local department store and it performs just as well as the larger one.

The only reason food will boil over is if you overfill it or you use too much water. Meats and vegetables produce their own moisture when cooking inside a crock so adjust the water you add accordingly. For instance, when I make a beef roast I only add about a third cup of water. Naturally the crock is going to get hot because it has to cook the food over an extended period of time, especially if you set it for 4 or 6 hours on the HIGH setting.

Keep in mind that not all reviews are accurate. You can get a product that has poor reviews and discover it's an awesome product. The reason for this is that quite often people will simply not read the directions or display any common sense when using the product. I do not mean to make others sound bad, but this has been my experience when purchasing products online (or anywhere for that matter).
