Caution: Do Not Overfill January 13, 2008 Linebacker (OH United States) 147 out of 147 found this review helpful
My wife and I bought the T-fal deepfryer and we love it. I read all the reviews and noted that one person had complained of finding that his T-fal deep fryer had leaked oil all over the counter. Finding few bad reviews, we decided to buy it. Sure enough, after the fryer cooled and the oil emptied into the reservoir there was oil all over the counter. It did not take a rocket scientist to figure out the reason. When we filled it prior to turning it on, we had a gallon jug of cooking oil which we emptied into fryer. A gallon is 3.78 liters (16 cups) and the capacity of the reservoir is 3.3 liters (14 cups). We noticed when we filled it that it was slightly over the max line but did not give it a second thought. Unfortunately, when the machine cooled and the oil drained into the reservoir, the extra two cups of oil had no where to go but onto the counter. THERE IS NO FUDGE FACTOR ON THE MAX LINE, DO NOT OVERFILL IT. Any oil that is over the Max line will end up all over your counter. We learned our lesson and have not overfilled it since. After that fist incident we have used our T-fal deep fryer several times and it works perfectly. The food comes out perfect, clean up is a snap and we would never trade it for anything else.
Almost perfect.... October 30, 2006 Stephen Ressel (North Dakota, USA) 48 out of 51 found this review helpful
This machine is brilliantly simple, easy to use, easy to take apart and clean, and so well thought out it might not have another that can best it.
Downside: the odor filter really doesn't filter that much, or that well. You still get huge plumes of vaporous oil rising up, and unless you use it under a hood your house will be a greasy mess. Luckily the design comes with two plastic side handles so you can easily move it on and off of the stove top where it can billow into your vent hood.
If you know what it means to have a deep fryer, you will enjoy this one January 22, 2007 yogagirl (chicago) 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
This unit's automatic oil filtering and storage is it's selling point. It is extremely painless to clean up after you are done. The stainless steel interior is a breeze to clean. Like other reviewers' statements, your house will smell of fried foods like a fast food joint for a little while. That is the give and take of frying at home. Also, you need a lot of oil, almost a gallon. The oil, thanks to the excellent filtering and storage system, can be reused at least 8 times.
If you keep your fryer on a level surface, you should not have any leakage problems. If you have leakage, you may have a defective unit or may not have assembled it correctly. I have had this for a few months now and I love it, no leakage.
Addendum: 08/08 Still no leakage. I only fill to just below the max line inside the stainless steel container, never higher. Working fine.
Best Deep Fryer Around December 30, 2005 Mary Gatlin (Fort Payne, Alabama) 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I have had several deep fryers. My family loves food cooked in this one. The easy cleaning with the oil filter system is AWESOME. It is so easy to clean. You drain oil put everthing in dishwasher. Wipe down heating element and you are done. There are so many Pros to this machine. The only Con is after you cook with it your house smells like fried oil. The filter in it is not the best. But everything else make up for it. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Fryer that makes cleaning easier/keeps odors at a minimum May 6, 2007 D. Wong (Boston, MA USA) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
It's amazing that more fryers don't come with an auto-draining feature. This fryer has completely changed my frying experience (especially considering that I hate cleaning):
1. I actually clean up the fryer more frequently now that draining the oil has been made simpler/cleaner. This also means that the fryer parts don't build up grime as quickly as in previous fryers (not surprisingly).
2. Since the oil is filtered and stored (and also with the right type of oil--peanut for instance), I've noticed that frying odors are kept to a minimum, even when reusing oil half a dozen times.
3. The separation of the power button and the temperature adjustment is a nice detail. With my previous fryer, the temperature adjustment always had to be turned all the way down to turn off the fryer; this was always made more difficult/annoying if the dial wasn't clean and because there's resistance to prevent the dial from accidentally being turned to switch the fryer on.
